That would be pretty interesting as well. I've never looked at any of Maclean's academic writing about lyric poetry, which would mean searching publications, but I suspect that he had a general affinity for that whole category of speech and thought.

People don't seem to pay much attention to specifics of rhetoric and style in the non-academic world, but it might be quite revealing!

Prairie MaryMary Strachan Scriverhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00538160009129822362noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-11838465.post-83709918247983169602007-10-01T00:52:00.000-06:002007-10-01T00:52:00.000-06:00I used "Young Men and Fire" in my classes back in ...I used "Young Men and Fire" in my classes back in the mid-1990s when I was teaching at a small Presbyterian college on the Plains. It struck me also that Maclean was strongly influenced by the cadences and phraseology of the Shorter Catechism (he was Presbyterian, after all, in upbringing). Any comments?

William R. This is the second seizure, the first one happening fourteen years ago.

Prairie Marymscriverhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13567509503405689139noreply@blogger.com
