I've read several times interesting things about Adolf Hungry Wolf and the Blackfoot people in your blog (thank you!). I take a keen interest in the Blackfoot people for many, mnay years. About ten years ago I even had the best of luck to be a guest of Adolf, Beverly and (some of) their children at their Good Medicine Ranch. I spent also some time with other Blackfoot people, becoming a soul-relative to the Yellow Horn family from the Northern Peigan Nation. I am still in touch with Adolf Hungry Wolf but - as a result of some sad events and unpleasant changes within the Hungry Wolf family - I lost any contact with Beverly. My fiancee and I wonder how we could get in touch with Beverly (who was like a bigger sister to me) again. Could you help us in some way? Thank you in advance! And thank you once more for all the interesting and important things you are giving here!

Best regads,
Pinapohsina
easternchief@yahoo.comAnonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-11838465.post-32998357707761745792007-04-04T09:12:00.000-06:002007-04-04T09:12:00.000-06:00More of a question than a comment, Prariemary. I purchased "The Ways of My Grandmothers" and am just starting to read it. A subsequent search on the Internet led me to your blogspot. Anyway, as I understand it, I descend from the Blackfoot Shoshoni tribe through my grandmother Martha Geneva Robinson. My question is, how do I find out more about my grandparents since most of my family is gone? I had a subscription to Ancestry.com, but I hit a dead end at one point and gave up going in that direction. Any suggestions? Do Blackfeet keep ancestral records? She and Adolf split up, but he was here for Indian Days and I'm sure he would have said something if she had died. I'm not sure where she's living right now, but in summer I would guess back at her folks' place.

I'm sorry for the rude comments posted on this blog. I haven't figured out how to get rid of them.

Prairie MaryMary Strachan Scriverhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00538160009129822362noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-11838465.post-1154317365925104372006-07-30T21:42:00.000-06:002006-07-30T21:42:00.000-06:00this is not a comment but a question - is beverly ...this is not a comment but a question - is beverly hungrywolf siil living
need to know
mini sopoAnonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-11838465.post-1134109838034011622005-12-08T23:30:00.000-07:002005-12-08T23:30:00.000-07:00Very interesting site, Mary. It is not a Beaver Bundle but a Thunderpipe Medicine Bundle and they are significantly different. It was transferred to Bob and myself in the same ceremonial way that all Bundles have always been transferred. The Bundle spoke to him in a dream and he shared that dream with the Canadian elders. Bob had just transferred out of the Horn Society the year before so he knew them all very well. They properly transferred it to him with all of the proper transfers. The elders did not set a price on the bundle because it was coming out of the museum. We chose to give a lot for it for the same reason that George and Mollie did when they were transferred their bundle. (which you can read about in Beverly's book "The Ways of my Grandmothers") Mainly because we wanted to show the proper respect for it and to acknowlege that we considered the knowledge and the blessing that it would bring to our clan as priceless. (which it has) Our main goal was to get it back to the people because that is who really owns the bundles, not families. For instance, our children know that it is not a family "artifact" but rather one of the people's guardian angels. Normally a whole clan will help to obtain one, but in our case, no one knew then of our cultural ways. It graced our family in Sept. 2001. Since then the Bundle has graciously and lovingly taught our entire community of our traditional ways. Thank you.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.com
