OCTOPI ADDENDUM

At the moment the Baptist congregation next door has inflated some bounce houses to attract kids to Bible school.  Religion as carnival -- an old tradition, old as tents.  Last year the heretical prairie wind sort of spoiled their fun by converting their house into a sailboat.  They are not hydrostatic, but pneumostatic, like the homemade plaid demonstration balloon in this Ted Talk.

As it turns out, there are more than a few hydrostatic organs in the human body.  The pharynx, the cochlea, the aorta.  Why wouldn’t there be?  We began as sea creatures who didn’t need bones because underwater we could fly.

But I'm not the first person to speculate about what it would be like to have a tentacle for an arm.  These examples aren't very sexy.  Maybe to an octopus.

The octopus mouth is at the convergence of all the arms: if it were a vagina,
it would be a true vagina dentata.  VERY toothy.
