A Browning man pleaded guilty Thursday to helping hide the body of an elderly woman in a crawlspace after his father killed her last year.
Thomas Charles Marc Heavy Runner, 21, pleaded guilty to accessory after the fact to murder, a crime punishable by up to 15 years in prison.
Heavy Runner's Father, Mark Saint Storm Heavy Runner, killed 71-year-old Marie Heavy Runner on July 1, after an argument. Mark Heavy Runner, 44, strangled the woman and then drowned her in a bathtub after she lost consciousness. He pleaded guilty to second-degree murder March 28, and is scheduled to be sentenced July 16.
On Thursday, U.S. District Judge Sam E. Haddon also set Thomas Heavy Runner's sentencing for July 16.
Family members have said Mark Heavy Runner was Marie Heavy Runner's nephew, but he was raised in the Heavy Runner family since he was a baby, and was eventually adopted into the family.
In an offer of proof filed in court this week, prosecutors state that Thomas Heavy Runner came home after work on July 1 to find that his father had just killed Marie Heavy Runner. Mark Heavy Runner then asked his son to help him hide the body, and the two men put the body in the crawlspace, where it stayed until November, when Blackfeet Tribal Law Enforcement discovered the body.
