STUFF PEOPLE NEVER SUSPECTED ABOUT GENES

This is an unreliable list that I keep partly as a reminder.  I started out listing concepts and went to just linking articles.  I'll come back to writing about genes many times.

New genes can appear from previous or null tissues.

2.  Genes can be swapped among beings not even the same species.  This was David Quammen's most recent insight.

3.  A gene in the presence of another gene may act differently from when it's alone.

4.  Successful future evolution towards the human goals may not proceed from humans at all.

This link won't work, but you could copy and paste.

This link won't work either.  Might be too old.

This won't link.  Try to go straight to JAMA.

Won't link, but I think Aeon has a directory that would list it.

Both newscientist.com and Nature.com have directories.
